Well, protagonist-kuns wife gets better after kitsune is locked up, so it seems like sealing her really does nullify her powers. You could still make an argument for people being responsible for bringing about their own suffering by sealing her, that would make for a pretty cool twist as well.

Maybe she starts out as a normal fox god, until she has a falling out with one of the villagers she's supposed to protect and who gets sick, which leads to the priest deciding to lock her up to try and protect that persons life. When the villagers decide to give her back her freedom a couple years later she's already a little strange, and soon they get spooked and lock her up again. This kind of thing repeats itself over and over again, and eventhough she tries to hold on to sanity over the centuries, each time she comes back a bit more broken.

The thought of hurting people just by disliking them without having any control over it is pretty sad and creepy, right?

Have there been any stories that emphasized horror, isolation, and loneliness?
