I'm not saying I like the current state of things or defending it, but that's a natural evolution of (for what it's worth) culture and language. It's actually kind of interesting in the academic sense how some things influence and change the others.
It's not a new thing either, leetspeak is one example (the -> teh, own -> pwn, later lol -> lel -> kek -> jej etc.). Except here we are in the middle of primordial soup (or collective consciousness) from which these memes emerge.
I guess the problem is that with the influx of new users there rate of those mutations increase while the quality proportionately decrease. Sort of like industrial revolution or something.
