Yeah I should have watched my mouth when I said that. If what I said was true I wouldn't even be bothering to learn it. There is a whole new world to explore when you learn it. Music, untranslated, unsubtitled anime, movies, shows, books, porn, and even an entirely new section of the internet.

I just found it funny that he'd use it being useless as an argument. He was being so bootyblasted about it that it seemed like he was jealous or was a crab trying to prevent me from doing something that might make him seem inferior. But only because he was so insistent on it being a party trick that I would use to impress people or get a foot ahead of everyone.

I draw a lot and take notes. It's only normal for me to want to have freedom in what I want to produce, which includes kanji. Last thing I'd want to do is limit myself to only being able to speak. Not to mention I could shitpost on paper without reference. Overall I could see many reasons that I would use kanji on paper, but even then I just find it fun.
Something is really up with that dude. If he was just trying to save me from what he assumes is wasting my time, I'm ok with that, but he was being hostile even after I acknowledged that.
