Depends entirely on what you prefer and like.
Architecture, beaches, electronics, busy downtown hustling, rural areas...

17 Days is a lot man, I wish I could go again!

Anyway, plan two days for fuji(!) Plan ahead well, watch the weather forecast and inform yourself. Start climbing the mountain early at night with the mountain guides. Usually a handful of locals gather very early to reach the top before dawn! Incredible view, I hope you plan on climbing it.

I am not really the anime guy so my visit to aki was very short. I was very fond of kyoto and takayama especially, very relaxing. Though some might find it boring. Thats where it its up to the person.

There is pelenty to see in Osaka aswell. Those shop/bar streets are quite a show and then there is also its castle.

My most cherished moments have been in fukuoka though. I arrived there in my second week after hustling and hunting for all those sightseeings around honshu (central island).

I did not want to leave this place anymore so I flat out cancelled the rest of the plan and remained there for the rest of the week.
Those beaches, mountains and the view across the city. It a fairly large city but with very few tall skyscrapes so you have a great view over the city and onto the sea and with all those peninsulas.
The local activities are also endless and lots to visit with a great and healthy mix of new and old.
And then there is the food... uah

If I every go again I'll start there and move further down to okinawa. For some reason I have no interest in the north.

Good luck and have fun!
