Is quantity really that important if characters get relegated to obscurity? This isn't in defense of Kankore, just a general thought.

At any rate, I don't care that much about the diversity of characters when since so few of them will be used more than once or even remembered by more than a handfull of people. It's not like either game's characters have all that much of a personality. ZUN needed a game to put his music in, he gave it some vague characters so he could move the game along with plot, it's not uncommon in video games. Kankore does the same, but it uses the characteristics of the ships as gimmicks for the girls. Fanon will always win out against the little canon there is anyway. That's the reason both these series are so popular. Fans can do whatever they want with the characters.

When I said I like both maybe I was being a bit dishonest. I've played both on a number of occasions, Touhou's an okay shmup and Kankore is pokemon with less direct control. I really couldn't say I have any special fondness for either. What I do like is the fan works that both get. I guess I'm just a big ol' secondary. The amount of fan work that Touhou gets is staggering, but the fact that for the longest time it was just Touhou was a shame. Seeing Kankore rise, even if just for a brief while as a potential rival is beautiful to me. I don't know if it will last, but I hope it does, for both series.
