In the manual of SMB, Peach is said to have magical powers that make her the only one capable of breaking the curse Bowser put on the Toads.
In the manual of SMB, Bowser is described as a Demon King, and a dark sorcerer, cementing the existence of demonic beings, alluded to further by the story line of Super Paper Mario.
Peach's magical ability is shown a few times in the series. In SMB2 she can levitate, in SMRPG she can use a host of magic skills, and in M&L BIS she can use her levitation powers on Bowser to eject him from her castle after the Brothers defeat him.
Bowser's magical ability seems to mainly involve transformation and necromancy. While this aspect is mostly handled by Kamek these days, Bowser's dark magical nature materializes in his ability to be resurrected after his many canonical deaths, showcased in-game in NSMB.
Peach's magical powers come directly from her Faith in God. Her Faith is alluded to in Paper Mario's climax.
