Why would a creature who trains to fight pretty much since the day they can walk have "telegraped as fuck" attacks?

Anyway, I imagine such duels as more epic affairs, with combatants moving faster than a normal human eye can follow, explosions of flame from the salamander's tail and weapons as she gets more and more into the fight, shock waves rattling nearby structures as the fighters collide, neither giving an inch as they look for an opening only to have every move countered, etc.

Are they? If anything I think this artist draws his salamanders with slightly larger hands than KC's.
