Like a child with a new toy Hana gingerly felt the waxy paper her spell card was made of, it sat snugly in the pouches festooned on her hip. As she strolled around the village this evening, making up for not being able to patrol the last few days as she recovered, she felt almost giddy at the prospect of finding some uppity youkai to bully. Hell, she could probably even bully an oni if she plays her cards and didn’t grow overconfident again.

As the sky turned purple and the dense clouds promised a very dark night the more reputable villagers trickled into the various homes and businesses that thronged the gravel roads. Lamps were lit outside the businesses still open for commerce and the atmosphere quickly became quiet and almost cloistered. The coming darkness all but ensured that more elicit business could be carried out in secret.

Hana of course was no such person, and walking along the eastern road she figured that she should be coming back home soon, Aunn would grow frantic if she didn’t at least check in soon. Still, there was one thing she needed to try. Now that the night cloaked her… Well, when else would she be able to try it?

She produced a little paper doll from one of the pouches on her leg, as she focused on it a little message became scrawled on it’s back. The message was simple, ‘will be out late’ and looking it over with the last rays of sun Hana sent it off letting it fly on home. That should keep the girl from going crazy with worry at least, Hana will have to pick up something delicious and greasy for dinner to make it up to her.

Traveling down the eastern road it didn’t take too long to reach the main square as night fell properly. The stalls that usually comprised the main bulk of the market were all shuttered or otherwise veiled along with being pushed off to a side. Hana breathed in deeply enjoying the cool air that filled her lungs, her breath formed a small cloud in the chill before drifting away.

Hana could see faster ways to her objective, save a few minutes of walking if were to just let the lines of the world relax. There weren’t many people around it at the moment, barely any whispers either with only the nocturnal types milling around. Still, it was common sense that you didn’t fly or use abilities in the village if you didn’t have too and she knew better than most as to the importance of such seemingly irrelevant rules.

Hana took a side path, one of the smaller roads that split off from the main paths and soon found herself plunged into darkness with barely any of the moon’s obscured light to guide her. Not wanting to catch her foot in a hole or slip on some piece of litter she started floating ever so slightly. The world grew quiet with only the sounds of her breathing and the muted ambience from conversation and activities of the people sequestered away in their homes to listen too.

It was peaceful, and the drifting smells of food being prepared made her empty belly grumble and her mind think of home. She couldn’t wait to head back and be done with it but there was something needed to be done first. Hana drifted into an alley barely large enough to admit a person and a half, she hovered a bit higher as she made her way. Not wanting to hit any debris and bother the people enjoying their night she made sure to advance at a leisurely pace.

it would be hard honestly as the only reliable method of harvest salt in gensokyo would be mining but with the help of the Kappa the adorable little munchkins should be able to help you find deposits buried underneath the rock and help you come up with a simple method of purifying it
