When you've beeen looking at someting for a long time, you build a personal mental (2nd) image about it, based heavily and increasedly on your own judgements about it; i.e. you start regarding it more as you THINK it is ("plane of meaning", in semiotics), instead of how you SEE it ("plane of immanence"). Additionally, believe it or not, the relativeness of your look is also determined by the unique structure of your own body and preconceptions; e.g. if you have an eye slightly lower in your face than the other, or see better with one than the other, that imbalace will be reflected in your drawings as something weird that others can detect but you don't; or, if there's part of your own body that you especially dislike, very probably you will keep performing an indidious emphasis/stylization of it in your characters, which once again will come out as a bad mannierism on the eyes of others...
