adding to >>41352536, this is all what yasu presumes would've happened, and there's every possibility that things would've gotten just as dire even if battler had come back the year before, and there's no guarantee she'd be happy with george even if r07 says he'd be alright with her and change his plans for the future to accommodate for her, since there's no saying what could've happened in the future that might've made him or her unhappy
george might've still wanted lots of children and the occasional slip of the tongue would remind her that she'll never be able to fulfill his true wishes for the future, or he might mention battler every now and again since even if she wasn't attending the conferences he'd still be going and her feelings for battler might start swirling chaotically anyway just from george's recounts of what he's up to
sure george and sayo might've been together happily for the rest of their lives, but just as easily george might've sent sayo into a depressive spiral anyway on accident and returned to find her in a bloody bath, or she might've lashed out at his slips eventually and said something she could never take back, driving a stake right through the relationship and cutting it off prematurely
and of course, a family conference can still end with bloodshed even if there's no gold to squabble over or guns to murder with - the ushiromiya powder keg might've blown anyway, with all those sinful souls condensed in one place just waiting for the opportunity to strike first, and they'd all end up dead regardless
part of the tragedy of it all is that it could've all been avoided, but another part is that it might've all been inevitable and we'll never truly know
