It's not like that, people got mad because, unlike Higurashi, there wasn't a single connection between the first episodes and the last ones. I think the only thing the question arc were useful for the answers, besides the character introduction and development, was some red truths here and there.
With Higurashi, each question game has its answers. It may not be the exact situation Keiichi was Hinamizawa'd on episode 1 and Rena was Hinamizawa'd on episode 6 but you can relate both games (episode 2 and episode 5 are a perfect example for this).
Now tell me just one thing that you can explicitly relate between episode 1 and episode 8. You can't, right?
That's why people got mad with Ryukishi and called him a hack or whatever. It's not like they didn't found the answer for Rokkenjima massacre Rosatrice faggots aren't even goat furniture, don't even mention them, but it would be good to relate both question arc and answer arcs a bit more and not make them read the question arcs again, but they are so good that I don't even mind it.
Not to mention the love thing. Not everyone (males mostly) will understand this at the first time myself included and probably will think it was a silly why dunnit for the massacre.
Mix this up and you can understand how Ryukishi almost fucked up his career.

Please note that there is a lot of people who read Umineko. Their opinions may be positive towards R07. I wrote this with your typical autistic Japanese otaku in mind, so spare me of Erika treatment.
