Yea, Ryukishi really seems to be capturing the cultural zeitgeist of the internet age with this one, and I can't wait to see him focus more on the COU or ABN in the future. It's amazing to see people try to defend whatever dystopian hellhole they happen to be politically aligned with.

I found the focus on gender identity and the way it's being presented somewhat off-putting at first (personally, I don't believe genderdysphoria is any more of an identity than being manic-depressive is - people just have a tendency to fall in love with their problems and identify themselves by them), but seeing how it's being developed I think Ryukishi is doing a good job presenting how the discourse on sexuality functions in progressive circles in our society, just like in Umineko he allowed his characters voice and act out their traditionalist values (with the order of succession that places some people firmly at the bottom based on factors that are thoroughly out of their control, Eva missing out on being the next successor because of her sex, trying to find a suitable wife for her son and so on).
Basically, for now I'm willing to trust that he'll develop these themes honestly and present the advantages and problems of different ideologies, social conventions and political stances without trying to sugarcoat anything.
