You want to talk theories? Okay, here's one: Angetrice.
Ange and Beatrice's roles in the metaworld are reversed from our own perception. Ange has taken the role of the witch Beatrice, in order to keep her brother, and the rest of the family, alive forever. She comes up with absurd methods so that she can see her beloved onii-san at his best, trying to solve her puzzles, from a twisted mind created by her traumas from Saint Lucia, from Eva, and most importantly from the events of 1986.
Not remembering much details about her brother other than fuzzy memories and letters he had sent out back in 1983, 'Battler' is constructed primarily from what she can put together from her memories and these mementos, although slightly skewed negative due to her repressed anger at him leaving her to a life of solitude. This means she is able to piece together a new Battler all for herself.
Meanwhile, the Ange of EP4 and onwards is in reality Yasu. She, like the rest of the Ushiromiyas, has moved on to the Golden Land. Only, Battler has not come with them. Certain this is because of her sister's influence, she barges into the gameboard to rescue her beloved, not knowing the true reason is simply because he's not dead. Featherine leads her astray, making her believe in a falsity that Battler is most assuredly dead, and making her read to her in a form not even hers.
At the end of EP4, Ange comes to terms that 'Battler' will never truly be like her Battler, and leaves the gameboard. Yasu takes her spot in EP6, settling herself nicely in the role of older Beato. After merging with chick Beato, the rest of the story can continue pretty much as percieved.
Ange returns as a child, no longer able to pretend to be anything but one, trying to make the perfect version of her brother rather than realising the truth of his 'death'. Yasu works through her traumas in EP7, and intends on taking the true Battler to the Golden Land with her, thus giving reasoning as to why she wishes for Ange to pick Magic - so that she can find Tohya and make him relinquish Battler.
I've been piecing this together in my head over the last few days, so feel free to poke some holes in it - I won't be available to read them for a while though, because it's getting quite late here.
