I've recently purchased and played idolmaster 2 for the ps3 and played with very little japanese skills.

Its doable if you read the wikis thoroughly, and have some patience. Its just that I couldn't read shit so everything beyond the game mechanics was lost on me, diminishing the experience.

The PSP game you're looking for is up on bitgamer, thats where I got it from. Most of the stuff is translated, except for lyrics training (too fast for me to read) and the e-mails (sometimes your idol wants you to make a promise for bonuses, etc). I got through the game fine though.
