That's how I remember it going as well.
Nephew-kun to me was always a young man, but far from a shota because it makes sense for Elly to be out of date and old-fashoned, given her dress and... odd living situation, wheras Yuuka would be more "with it" since she actually leaves Mugenkan a lot. Therefore she would act a lot like an old lady, and refer to someone more than a year or two (Biologically speaking, who knows how old Elly is chronologically and it's not really relevant) younger than her as her "nephew", since that's a thing people a generation or two ago liked to do.
Although I thought everyone had agreed upon cider as her drink of choice, leading to the joke of everyone in Mugenkan being rough around the edges compared to the more snobby nobility that the Scarlets represent.
