Why do I find random spriteless Higurashi characters so memorable even years after reading the VN?

I'm talking about Koizumi, Representative Sonozaki, that one asshole cop who hates Ooishi, the old woman whose dying husband was used as a scapegoat by his political partners in Matsuribayashi, the soldier who cries under his mask, the random kid that dies in that one Himatsubushi TIP, the biker gang that gets tricked and arrested by Ooishi, the perverted foreign diplomat who gets beaten up by Akasaka...

I hate how the anime left them all out. They were all important for moving the events along.
