I watched Wicked City when I was a kid -- I think I rented it on VHS -- but that was like 20 years ago and I didn't remember it much, so I rewatched it recently. I really liked the dark tone of it, the style, the action scenes, but I thought it kind of fell flat with trying to be a love story at the end. I think I would have liked it more if it had been a grimdark edgefest all the way through. I guess my question is to what degree is Maggot Baits a romance in this way? That shit didn't ruin Wicked City for me -- I still enjoyed it -- but if Maggot Baits is leaning even more in that direction, like as a primary component of its story, then it makes me wonder if I'd enjoy it.
