Aikido relies heavily on grabbing wrists.
You are not allowed to grab the gloves of your opponent.
MMA gloves cover all the way up to the wrist.

Herp derp derp, most aikido moves are based exclusively on wrist and hand throws. Therefore, aikido can't be used.

Also, the reason you see Aikido look like it's staged is because you literally cannot have a "real" Aikido fight, as it will end up with the first person being grabbed having a broken wrist, arm, or hand. The reason Aikido demonstrations looked rigged is because they are - the practicioners must move along with the grabbing or else the tension from having their arms and legs manipulated will break them.
