Yes you have, I have 3k plat and have almost done no town quests. Just get your faith to 150, and the Yacatect medal (25 plat in a month).

I think that my shopkeeper is trading opened mysterious envolopes against closed containers (material box, safe).
I didn't really check my item box that often, but it's likely the only thing that could have been traded for the containers. (had around 80 open envelopes).
