I did read the FAQ of the guide but I have a idiot question about the answer at line 360, when it say "String and a ruler".

Can someone give me a pic of a String ?
I'm french so when I see this word I think of the type string in programming languages, or the cloth on my pic. I don't see a link between this two thing and a measure of girth so I think "String" is an other thing but I don't know what.
