Even before Sotsu fell apart, Gou just completely failed as an intro to the franchise and Higurashi was never that big in the West.

Now, granted, Deen did look silly at times, but they were trying very hard to sell an atmosphere, while Gou just felt lazy in comparison and then the actual violence often looked goofy.

This becomes an obvious issue in late Nekodamashi with how the entire Mountain Dog plot is handled, and the Neko -> Satokowashi transition where there isn't anything establishing it takes place before everything else, aside from starting with a scene old viewers should recognize.
