It's not ironic at all. Subaru went into learning it with an open mind, invited her friends who are way into it and made a fun stream out of it. She updated us on her Twisted adventures ever since then, like talks with Iofi or about her luck and impressions, and how she started to really get it after pulling together with someone. It's really telling that she apparently isn't whaling at all and just plays for social reasons like that ever since the beginning. Her opinion on "it's just a card" never really changed but she understands the appeal of the genre now and found something to enjoy in it. It's pretty impressive how she avoided such a massive pitfall just with a little bit of guidance and common sense. That's just Subaru being wonderful as usual.
