I loved the concept, my personal problem with it is that the phase doesn't really do anything indepth with it. The very first chapter explains the concept with the barrel analogy, making it perfectly clear, and it's nice to have some scenes where it's hammered on how important for more or less most of the cast the concept itself is. At the very same time though, we are shown that these naive kids are at best merely pretending (either due to peer pressure or because they are spies) and at worst don't realize they are just being used, pieces on a bigger gameboard. The second half of the novel, before shit goes real with the failing of the 8MS system is just a slog of chapters where characters look at the news, comment over the news, and then repeat to each other that they are going to protect the walls, that they won't kill and won't be killed, that they swore an oath, but that they are also more or less powerless because the world is a complicated place. There is no conflict, no real clash of ideologies and even if some of these people DO disapprove of Miyao's ideas they keep their mouth shut and just go along with it because we have to act like we are all friends. Add to this the relative staticity of the locations (they are always in that damn bath) and the complete lack of personal character moments and it makes for a perfect recipe for boredom. I understand we can't exactly have happy slice of life moments while the world is preparing to self-destruct, but surely we can find something. The very fact most of the interesting character development happens in the data fragments really is telling.
It's somehow reminiscent of episode 6, where Ryukishi really wants you to understand what the trial of love means but is so horrified at the same time of making it too obvious that all he can do is keep repeating, over and over again, that only the victor is allowed to love.

What was the point of Erika's character really? Or generally, what was the point of ep5 and ep6?

Remember when Beato was delicious, mysterious sexy witch and not a shitty foolish moeblob?

Good times, good times.

I'm defending him because he's my client. And I will say it again: he was not acting in an idiotic fashion. Using the phrase "Let's not." was completely intentional and not a result of lacking knowledge of English grammar.

It was supposed to be a humorous remark, because of the incongruity of the OP's post with my client's remark. The fact that my client simply dismissed the opening post with "Let's not." and not a rational remark creates humor and gives my client an air of indifference, thus resulting in a casual insult of the opening post.
