>ZUN just parties however he wants, and supports the doujinshi scene. He takes it pretty easy when it comes to the Touhou personalities, adjusting them as he feels like. In the end, you can almost always find some sort of support "from ZUN" that goes with your idea of the character. But ZUN himself is so inconsistent, and things could go wrong with the translation, that people will end up with different ideas about the same character even though they're using the same source to back up their own interpretation.

This, I think, is the greatest strength of the Touhou mythology/franchise.

It also may be the reason why he's so reluctant to capitalize on it in the marketplace by licensing an official anime etc. He may realize that any official interpretation he could come up with simply won't be equal to the ones we have made up in our own minds.
