The unique problem Babymetal has always had was that it was a band fronted by three tween girls whose fans cover a wide range of ages and world locations. Sadly, this means that misogynists, incels and random neckbearded weirdos from all over the place who made up part of that fandom and (unfortunately) fetishized Yui as the "pretty one" for years all freaked the fuck out when she suddenly dropped off the face of the earth at the end of 2017. The band's management made a real mess of letting anyone know what had happened in the year that followed which allowed all these insane theories to fly around, which in the world of idol music can go utterly insane. The toxicity of the internet age has just magnified it all.
