Basically, yes. I assume you've read Umineko first, and then went into Higurashi assuming the game was solvable fully within the mystery genre?

The moment where you should have ultimately realized how the story took a definitive turn towards the fantasy genre was in Himatsubushi. No human could explain Rika predicting with such accuracy the murders that were to take place in the following, especially in the case of Satoko's parents which IIRC was something that happened. Doubting Akasaka's memories could have been a possible move, until Tsumihoroboshi.
