Don't at least Kaga and/or Akagi pretty much remember the battle of Midway and have nightmares about it?

What did Akagi mean with you can't fight fate in the series?
I get her "don't repeat the errors of the past" thing, but by the fact alone that they are living beings now instead of real ships, history just CAN not repeat itself. For example, all carriers at Midway were essentially destroyed by secondary explosions of fuel and ammo, something that can't happen to a living being. For the same reason, Mutsu won't blow up. The abyssals could still kill her, yes, but that fact alone would already have changed fate, wouldn't it? Taiho can not be blown up by fuel fumes, Ark Royal can not sink because her electric power is taken out, and so on.
Also, if nothing else there would still be the possibility to simply not "reenact" history, but form entierely different battle groups and attack on different places, so what did she mean by that?
