I got my mother a $300 dollar bonsai tree for her birthday.

She took great care of it, then when summer came around she put it outside.

She'd read somewhere that was a good idea, and it can be apparently, if the tree is given time to acclimate.

The guy who grew the tree told me that it shouldn't have been left out for any longer than 10 minutes the first day it was outside, and from there my mother should have slowly increased the time to an hour, and then several hours.

She left it out for several hours from the start, and the tree fried. Then she probably over-watered it, damaging its roots.

I returned the tree to the guy who made it. He's had it for weeks now, and although he tells me that the tree is still clinging to life it hasn't been making any progress.

tl;dr don't put your fucking bonsai trees outdoors, and don't over-water them
