Men of the European race have, over the past 500 years, spread to every corner of the world and settled there. While we are all human, what has struck Europeans more than anything else is how very DIFFERENT the other races of the world were and are from ourselves.

Some civilized in their own fashion, like the Aztecs with their glittering cities of gold (human sacrifices aside), or the Chinese, with their detailed rites and perplexingly complex writing system. Some were bluntly savages, from the Zulus and Hottentots of Southern Africa to the imbecilic native Australians to the terrifying man-eaters of New Guinea.

In the case of the Chinese, the Japanese, and the Koreans, Europeans mostly found them admirably disciplined and dilligent in their own fashion. However, for the most part, they found them socially difficult to deal with. They were by our standards too easily offended, dull, and incurious. By theirs, we were rude, arrogant, and unreliable. This did not mean that the races could not get along, of course: in Hong Kong, Macau, Nagasaki, Taiwan, the Dutch East Indies and elsewhere Europeans and Asiatics found themselves working together. They learned our languages, some of us learned theirs. There have been many interracial marriages, and of course many Asians live in the West and a smaller number of Europeans have made Asia their home.

But what I find curious is that Europeans dealing with Africans, the natives of Central and South America and other places seem to be happy ACCEPTING THAT WE ARE NOT THE SAME. The Spaniards who settled in the ruins of the Inca Empire remained just that, Spaniards, even those who learned the native tongue and took native wives. Germans in Namibia are just that, Germans. Afrikaners living in the Northern Cape cheerfully learn some or even a great deal of their servants' tongue, but the fact that they themselves remain just that, Afrikaners of white blood is a self-evident fact that they cannot and would never change.

Europeans in Asia (and indeed, whites in Western lands!) seem different, though. They seem unhappy with the notion that a natural cultural and racial barrier exists between the two races. You see this on /pol/, ("Honorary Asians!") you see this on /r9k/, you see this among expats in Asia, you see it IRL with white men in interracial relationships who often seem surprised when serious cultural differences emerge.

This notion of kinship or equality between the races seems to mainly be rooted in IQ tests, FBI crime statistics, and in the case of *channers, a random quote of Hitler's. What's ironic is that it seems to be almost entirely a one-sided phenomenon. Native Asians for their part tend to see Westerners as some kind of mythological creature, a band of overbearing and capable giants, tall, hairy, and violent yet strangely sentimental and foolish. Even those classes with a positive disposition towards whites/Westerners (old South Koreans, young Hong Kongers) tend to have this perception, somewhat slanted towards a charitable and positive interpretation. For these friendlier Asians, there is nevertheless something of a “敬而遠之” attitude. For those more hostile of course, we are merely villains, lustful, short-sighted, and selfish.

I guess the question to ask here is: where does this idea of imagined kinship come from? ACTUAL kinship exists between Europeans/whites and Arabs and (((another group))). That's not to say that distant groups ought to be hated or feared by default, BUT it seems pretty obvious to me that Asians are possibly the most distant from ourselves, both culturally and racially, to the extent that normal social intercourse is difficult because of a lack of shared assumptions.
