Fuck, seems like this Ezo/Hokkaido card is going to be a pain.

So, Ezo/Hokkaido was settled by the Japanese since the Muromachi period (1336–1573), but it didn't become part of the province system until 1869... which was the same year that many provinces started being replaced with prefectures (they were all replaced by 1871). Worse still, Ezo/Hokkaido wasn't one province, it was split into 11 provinces, and there are no maps of these provinces which match the other ones used on either the English or Japanese Wikipedia pages.

I don't really know what to do about it. It seems like it might be a good idea to just remove Hokkaido/Ezo from the maps on the other cards. Pic related from Japanese Wikipedia doesn't include it, after all.

Any suggestions?
