IN is pretty easy, the patterns aren't all that hard to learn and the deathbombing window is generous. Once you learn the patterns, you can switch over to Marisa/Alice and proceed to Malice cannon your way to quick victories.

How long before he has ~200mb touhou.jpg folder, a Reimu plush doll, gigabytes of remix mp3's, 1CC'd EoSD on Normal, gets a boner for armpits, and constantly makes obscure references to series?

I'd give him two months before this virus has destroyed his mind. I feel kinda guilty.
