Hello. I'm new to /jp/, and am interested in visual novels. Are there some universally "good" ones that near everyone likes? The only two I've heard of are Higurashi and Clannad.

I'm looking for more deep story than dating sim, but I'm not sure how common they are. Most lists I find online deal entirely with the latter. Oh, and will I need any special programs to run them?
