UBW is about Rin and Shirou's romance, and Archer ultimately supports their relationship by the end because she knows Rin can save Shirou. UBW very much so initially begins as a battle between Shirou and Archer for Rin's soul, with the former's pushing her to embrace her more authentic inner idealistic and human core and the latter's trying to make her double down on her magus persona that is causing her so much pain. But as Rin grows ever more comfortable with her true desires under Shirou's influence, the narrative becomes one about Rin and Archer's struggle for *Shirou's* soul, Shirou's victory over Archer being consummated with Rin's telling Archer that she loves Shirou *because* of his stubborn idealism that gives her strength, courage and hope that keeps her going in life, and not in spite of it; Rin declares that she loves Shirou for the very traits that Archer lost, or rather has buried deep within. Rin's fierce opposition to Archer adumbrates Shirou's victory over him -- the redhead won before the fight had even begun. Rin's love for Shirou compels Archer to contemplate what he has lost, and he recognizes that she will be the support that will save Shirou yet he lacked. Rin and Archer's dynamic is wholly in the service of Rin and Shirou's romance.

But I am sure you have some great counterarguments to offer.
