1. We already have our own mythology, you just aren't looking for it.
2. "Culture" most people talk about is just a code-word for ethnic/local/tribal idiosyncratic shit. Real culture (classical music, for instance) is infinitely transplantable from country to country and it spreads. The most folk culture can hope for is eventually being made into something else, like a video game or a novel.

Proof positive, as if any were really needed after the career of that Mow Zedung guy, that you can make any idiocy seem like a reasoned argument.

Touhou was started by a do-it-yourself developer, and now it's like an avalanche of people putting serious effort into comics and games and things on their own without regards to whether they're going to get to sell it for money or not.

The community is like 4chan, only with content instead of crap, and news instead of pranks and invasions.
