There's a safe spot on her first and second nonspell that you can learn very consistently. Her first spell is ass if you're not sure what you're doing
but the trick is to start at the top of the screen to "train" the zombie fairies to the top and then work your way to the bottom, clockwise. Honestly for me her hardest attack (in terms of my own consistency) is her last nonspell, followed up by Needle Mountain of a Former Hell, picrel

Funny you mention it, cuz going for lives was exactly what I tried at first; and it wasn't so bad initially, until I got to Shou and she trashed me (and subsequently all my power) so hard that I had no resources going into stage 6.
Altogether it wasn't that bad though, once I figured out to go for bombs instead. I was much delighted with the retained bombs on death compared to SA, I found SA to be absolute hell compared to UFO....which is apparently an unpopular opinion?

My argument is basically that SA is a harder game than UFO because although it gives you plenty of life resources, the shot types overall kinda suck, the bombs suck even more, and when you use bombs you can quickly go into a death spiral if you can't recover your power quickly enough... Also I think Okuu/Orin are tougher fights than Byakuren/Shou, although that's probably more a matter of opinion
