I'll tell you /jp/, what irks me about koishi and satori in its original media and common fan works interpretation.
we have two sisters who can mindread, and people don't like them because it's incovenient to have your thoughts exposed. one of them continues with her life, as it does not concern her. but the other one feel sad, she wants to make friends, yet people hate her because of what she is, no matter what, because she is a satori, and satori are for hate. the latter sister decides to cripple herself and, while it works, also changes her; and not much latter she's gone from home. what do we have here? instead of growing a Thicker Skin and keeping the lifestyle of your kin, and observing the brighter side of what it brings because life is in shades of gray, she: mutilates herself as a solution to her problems, as in mind reading impedes her relations with others; and abandons her sister, one who shared the same fate as her. on the next paragraph I would like to address with the first part.
while satori as a race are distasted because they can mind read, losing this ability wouldn't change what koishi is, and satori reputation would still hamper any relation with other folk; the same can be said otherwise, and it would be possible to a satori to earn the friendship of a more receptive individual (as later she did, simply because she met more and more people). that not only was uninsightful decision of her part, I perceive as an desperate tentative for an easy solution, for mind reading brought unpleasent emotions that overwhelmed and saddened her. this brings us to the second section.
so as it was said before, koishi left her home and became a vagrant, all because she sought for friendship. what she left behind? komeiji satori is her sister and this one stayed at home. she displays worry about her sister, as normally a sibling would, and shares the hate of being born a satori youkai. from this part I beg your berdon of using empirical knowledge, but as an older sibling there would be no more appropriate individual in life to seek compassion and understanding than your own family. even accounting cultural diferences, family ties are often stronger than disagreement, resentment and grudge; "blood is thicker than water", it's said. this desire for relations that hardly could be as strong, sacrificing sisterly love for uncertainty, rubs me in the wrong way, and I believe the older sister guards regret about this. and yet she still worries.
concluding, how can I accept that on doujin community the major plot point used on stories with the komeiji sisters are "koshi trolls her sister again" or "satori has emotional issues, but koishi is here to help". oh yeah, really lets have the person who retarded himself because "people were mean" help the person who, despite living in seclusion for SO LONG, who does not refrain to act the "Uncovenient Satori, Who Intrudes Your Thoughs" on anyone, because of course she has low self esteem and emotionally frail!
