It's been a long time since Touhou games and other materials have been translated, and even longer since anyone took a second look at any of it. I know I have, but have you noticed anything that could've been translated better, but wasn't, and thus led to confusion and widespread misinterpretation in the fanbase?

Here's an example I noticed recently. You know how Suika is referred to as an outcast? Well, she's not. Or, not exactly. In her IaMP ending, she's referred to as 異端児 (itanji). Google will tell you this means "heretic", but Bing's "maverick" is more accurate. Look it up in a Japanese dictionary and the word is far less negative than heretic or outcast would imply. It means she's unique and doesn't fit the mold of what an oni is, and the reason she doesn't fit is because she's dishonest/doesn't kidnap humans. I'd update the TL but don't actually know how to do that (though I guess I could look it up). She's a weirdo, but unsurprisingly she's not an OUTCAST since ,y'know, she RULED the oni for a long time along with the other three Devas.

I remember a few other things, like how Reimu was called "alone at heart" for years until people started realizing that what was actually meant was "she prefers to work alone". She's got friends, and even admits that often. What about you, /jp/sies?
