I'm not a fan of hers but even if it is true, I don't really blame her. People don't understand how scary dictatorships can be. Sometimes you're not just protecting your own ass but your family and friends too from government. If you stay silent, they can put pressure on you for staying silent because that's suspicious to them. If you're a regular citizen your dissent won't do anything. If you're rich and powerful, you have some chances but you will most likely get betrayed by someone who hopes to become powerful as a reward for turning you in.
Only ways to save yourself is to escape and cut all ties or be a good, obedient citizen.
