I'm not used to seeing this pattern used like in the sentence above ～て～ても　
Is the first て simply being used as the conjunction "and" in the example above?
So it reads as "Sumi's grip was no longer that of a couples' AND I had a feeling she was saying that we don't need to be family to share (this feeling)"
That reads very awkwardly so I suspect it's incorrect.
