Hm, it's the idea of just sugar. I don't go and rip open a pack of sugar, then eat it as is... sugar is meant to accent something else. A part of a greater whole.

I agree, in a sense, you can't do "just one thing" if we were talking a meal, and one was cooking it, the meal could only be made truly magnificent via a proper combination of flavors and textures. Hence, spice... variety, all that good stuff.
