Some people were of the "ew don't touch me metalheads are gross why do people stand so close to each other" school of thought, others were just the typical shy introvert, I'm sure there was quite a few autistic NEETs as well who made that the first time they left their mum's house in months, more than a few dads, etc.

I think for most people it was their first metal concert and also their first concert in general. They just had no idea how to act. Add that to a not-quite-full arena and all that awkwardness is amplified. The moshing was a big old meh.

With Colbert it was a tiny fraction and the people there were seated I'm assuming but it was just like a concentrated dose of a fandom and people excited to see them, and not just a bunch of people standing there with their arms crossed.

I don't believe anything that xmetal says, but I do think that at the very least performing as Babymetal has given all that confidence and everything. It could have been any other genre though, the fact that it's part metal is besides the point.

It's like how Ozzy Osbourne has said that he hates metal festivals & doesn't follow the modern metal world and after every show that he plays he just fucks off home.
