RO was fun because it wasn't "endgame is all that matters" bullshit. You saw those few peeps that were max level shining like some blingee mother fuckers in main towns and you wanted to be like them. Maybe not even max levels, just dudes using strong gear (which were strong because of status effects or bonus quirks, instead of just being higher numbers) you saw killing shit better than you, which made you want to kill shit better too. It was social without actually forcing you to interact directly with people, despite the fact that you were just grinding shit.

Also every class was ACTUALLY unique in various senses (it was one of the few games to ever have the balls to actually have healers that ONLY heal and buff, you deal NO damage AT ALL) instead of being all the same thing with different animations.

That it was full of charm and had a godly OST like you said sure helped too. To be honest I still play to this day, although Renewal has it's pros I don't think it compares.
