Young Battler was far smarter, and far more well read than Older Battler. And the way he talks about wanting a crime to have "heart" to it - it's like he's deliberately setting Yasu up.

Well, Yasu has her own problems like with the evil tulpa or whatever. But I'm going to pull a Will Smith from MIB and say Young Battler is too fucking smart.

Not that little kids can't be smart. It's just that it doesn't follow that Young Battler is an incredibly well-read genius who gives Yasu all of her books, and that Older Battler struggles with (relatively) straight forward locked rooms.
