the societal pressures only get to you if you let them.

Honestly, the only time societal pressures seriously get in your way is if your job demands it.. like if you are a salary-man at a software firm or something.

If you mean "societal pressures" like "being polite" and participating in community events, then i really dont think anyone would have a difficult time with that.

the only time when society pressures get in the way of a persons life is if their job demands it, or if their family or peers demand it.

A lot of the societal pressures come from outside influences,
A wife wants her husband to make more money and work harder
The mother and father want the son to have 13 extra curricular activities in highschool
The grandparents want their grandchild to get perfect grades
The boss wants his employee to work hard or else hes fired.

none of these societal pressures are caused by the person, but other people.
A white pig gaijin, living in japan for a few years wouldnt be faced with these types of pressures, except the pressure to keep up in conversation.
