So what do you guys think of Kara no Kyoukai?

Just finished reading the fourth volume of Kara no Kyoukai. I must say /jp/, I love these light novels, I love the first person writing style and the fact that it has almost no descriptive language, but focuses entirely on the character interactions and internal dialogue.

Could /jp/ please recommend me some other light novels which are similar please.

Hey, does Nasu's writing and stories remind anyone of Lovecraft?

Wow, /a/, I have to say, getting into light novels has been a great experience. As someone who likes to dabble in writing myself, I always found myself thinking 'that sentence or those few words could be cut out' to normal novels, but this is not so with light novels.

I mean, I do somewhat remember reading short stories when I was younger, but light novels are different. They seem to take 'succinct' to a new level.

Instead of explaining fantastic things to an 'outsider' character (basically self-insertion of the reader) they make the main character completely at ease with ghosts, demons or the supernatural. So because they take such things as the norm, it becomes believable.

Because of this, it allows the story to take an unconventional route, as opposed to long exposition at the beginning, you can throw the reader out of the bathwater in the first volume, straight into this world, and rather than being 'told' what is happening, you see it.

Good example is Kara no Kyoukai, which largely explains all the necessary backstory using Shiki's internal dialogue. The 'always in first-person' also makes the character story much more interesting.

So /jp/, I would like to hear your thoughts on favorite light novels etc etc.

Kind of like a spiritual sequel to Tsukihime? It's Japanese, obviously.

I heard a rumor that Del Ray licensed the Kara no Kyoukai Novels. Can any one confirm this?

How come when I play KnK with mplayer classic it's excessively quiet, but when I play it with The KMPlayer, it's normal volume? I hate KMPlayer, how can I make it louder? Both my system and media player volume are at max so that's not the problem.

I'm a person who, upon seeing ***** - 01, will download it just to give it a shot.

I downloaded kara no kyoukai cause I saw it was just released awhile back and I heard "shiki".

I don't know shit about fatestay/night or w/e or type-moon and all I know about "shiki" is that it is a dude with glasses and a dagger because I see it all the time here.

Why is Shiki a girl in this?

Well, this is finally out. In before disappointment.

I just watched the first OVA.

HOLY SHIT THIS WAS FUCKING EPIC. It's kind of like the Hellsing OVA in that it makes up for the total failure that was the TV series that preceded it (though in this case I'm refering to a series that takes place in the same universe, not just another adaption).

This is a must watch.

I want Shiki Ryōgi in actress again, like now.
