It was probably a present from one of his relatives who heard he was into "something-or-other-metal", or he just got them on sale at the British equivalent of Wal Mart.

Metalheads don't have pink flags & posters & towels and other merchandise from jr idol groups on their wall, and they usually care for more than one semi-metal band.
