I think you know when I say art and literature I mean more specifically stuff like paintings, tapestries, poetry and "classical" literature. Basically in any medium that takes itself very seriously its non stop gratuitous cherry blossom talk, for example they come up in about every other one of matsuo basho's nature haikus and I'm pretty sure in the tale of genji when genji has gay sex with one of his retainers there's a whole paragraph dedicated to describing exactly how the cherry blossoms fell around them while they fucked. They even fit them into their idioms - they don't talk about dying and getting buried, they talk about "laying beneath the cherry blossoms." When I was in japan for a week 6 different people independently mentioned them in conversation at least once, and I only spoke to around 10 because of my broken japanese. They're obsessed anon, besides anime, manga, gaymes which have a culture of their own and those other western mediums which are dominated by western cuture their whole culture is designed around cherry blossoms, its like a national fetish.
