When waifu2x works, it works pretty good.

It can be variable on some images though. I've done some upscaling of Melty Blood assets and I always do touch ups in photoshop itself because it can sometimes get smudgey. They key is being careful with how much you denoise. Sometimes it's better to go in and clear up the noise artifacts by hand.

It works better the higher res the source is, of course.
