I may be atypical, but I never really enjoyed vidya, and saging wasn't really something I enjoyed doing.
While the board was definitely flooded back then, I think almost all the examples here were the most whimsical and good-natured of it (well, maybe not >>22507522
). You know, compared to guro, literal shitposting, jannycat, etc.
I never posted it when it was "normal" because I perceived it as spam as well, but I'll be damned if I didn't love those hoopjumps and spagetti-cookers.

This is pretty much the entirety of the rub in a nutshell.
Out of all the insufferable mentalities on /jp/, idolfaggotry is the most odious. Idolatry doesn't promote OC and multifaceted discussion like fictional and hobbyist works. It's more encouraging of image-dumping, petty dissing, and an overall lower level of discourse. And because it is real life, you get real butthurt, real drama, and all that comes with that (doxxing, etc.). And to top it off, many just don't really care about anything non-idol, and perceive random 2D/niche content as less deserving of a thread than their girl(s), if not actively disliking it like >>22329545 .

On the other hand, arguing they aren't otaku is absurd, and I believe it is only done with the hope that they'll be purged from /jp/. If you seriously don't believe them to be otaku, just watch Perfect Blue or go to literally any site dedicated to idol groups. Even on other sites they're more /jp/-tier than almost anything else.
