Guess what? if you showed someone a japanese word written in IPA, which is as objective as writing gets, they'd probably misread or not recognize most of the symbles. that does not make the IPA wrong, or ineffective, it's just that different ways are useful in different contexts.
It's good to be pragmatic when creating systems with a clear purpose, however effectiveness doesn't define correctness. Pinyin for chinese uses "x" to designate a し sound, and people know to read it that way only after they are taught. that'd be no different than teaching people that D is read D except before u, where it's read Z.
